Fun on the Water
There are few better places for water recreation than Western North Carolina. From lazy tubing floats and refreshing lake swims to thrilling whitewater runs, it’s all right out our back door. Just minutes away, you’ll find the swim beach at Lake Summit, while nearby DuPont State Forest offers incredible swimming in lakes, rivers, and beneath stunning waterfalls. The Green River delivers a little of everything—from easygoing tubing to heart-pounding whitewater—and local outfitter Green River Adventures makes it easy to experience it all. The French Broad River is also close by, with plenty of fun ways to get on the water, and Jones Gap State Park is filled with beautiful swimming holes along the river. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, cooling off in a mountain swim hole, or riding a Class V rapid, Western North Carolina is a true playground for water lovers.

Road Biking
Road biking in this area is some of the best in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with dozens of scenic routes winding through mountains, along creeks, and past beautiful landscapes—all with minimal traffic. Whether you’re looking for a short spin or a full-day climb, options abound, from a convenient 10-mile loop right out the front door to iconic rides like the Greenville Watershed, with its protected scenery and challenging climbs, or longer routes up Pinnacle Mountain. Riders can also enjoy peaceful gravel options like Pearson Falls, Bell Mountain, and the Lake Summit loop, which offers a mostly flat, scenic cruise. With a mix of rewarding climbs, quiet roads, and stunning views, this area is a true haven for cyclists of all levels.

Zip Lining and Climbing
For high-adrenaline adventure and laid-back mountain vibes, this area delivers it all. The Gorge in Saluda offers an unforgettable zipline canopy tour, dropping 1,100 vertical feet through old-growth forest with 11 ziplines, a sky bridge, and rappels overlooking the vast Green River Gamelands. Nearby, The Riveter provides a more relaxed but equally engaging experience, featuring indoor climbing, outdoor bike jump lines, fitness and yoga studios, a taproom, and scenic views—perfect for both action and unwinding in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
